“My Jar of Oil” Craft“

Theme: God Provides and Multiplies Even What Seems Small

Focus Stories:

1 Kings 17 – The widow’s jar of oil and flour

2 Kings 4 – The widow’s jar of oil that never ran dry

Craft Overview:

Create a small “jar of oil” as a visual reminder that God sees our needs and is faithful to provide. The jar can include written “drops” of blessings, prayers, or needs that you’re trusting God to multiply.

Materials Needed:

• Small plastic jars, baby food jars, clear cups, or mini mason jars (1 per person)
• Yellow tissue paper or gold ribbon (to represent oil)
• Small blank paper “oil drop” cutouts (tear-drop shapes)
• Pens or markers
• Twine, string, or decorative ribbon
• Label or sticker that says: “God multiplied her jar of oil – 2 Kings 4:7” or “My Jar of Oil”
• Optional: Olive oil scent (for sensory element), glitter, stickers for decorating the jar

Instructions:

1. Decorate the Jar:
   Let each participant decorate their jar using ribbon, stickers, or a pre-printed label.
2. Add “Oil”:
   • Place yellow tissue paper (crumpled) or yellow ribbon inside the jar to represent the oil.
   • Optionally, add a few drops of scented oil to create a fragrant reminder of God’s blessing.
3. Write on the Drops:
   • Give each person 3–5 oil drop cutouts.
   • On each drop, they can write either:
     • A blessing they’re thankful for
     • A need they are trusting God to provide
     • A prayer for revival or provision
   • Fold the drops and place them inside the jar.
4. Closing Thought:
   Share a short reflection:

“God used a little oil to do something big. This jar reminds us that when we trust and obey, even what we think is small can be more than enough in God’s hands.”

Include a verse tag attached with twine:

“The jar of oil did not run dry, according to the word of the Lord.” – 1 Kings 17:16
or
“Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.” – 2 Kings 4:7
